Alipurduar Sunday Market Has People Crowding From 20 Nearby Villages | COVID-19

Our Community Correspondent Puja Thakur reports from Kumargram block in Alipurduar district of West Bengal. A weekly Sunday market, which sells everything from groceries to clothes, attracts hundreds of people from 20-25 nearby villages. People are casual about wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.

Police personnel patrol the area and ask shopkeepers and buyers to wear masks. However, many people wear it properly (covering mouth and nose) only until police are present. Later it just hangs around the neck area increasing the risk of COVID-19 infection.

One of the incharges of the market that our CC spoke to appealed to the administration to sanitize the market as soon as it gets over. This will help reduce the chances of catching an infection.
